In case you are a bit unsure, we absolutely love Batman. Batman bed sheets, Batman comic books, Batman ice cube trays, Batman wallpaper… whatever it is, just give it to us with Batman on it. (You can NEVER have enough Batman kids.)
Recently we saw a new offering from artist Ben Whitesell featuring our favorite detective and it left us wanting all of them for our office. Called “Batman Noir,” Ben has created some Batman images that pay homage to the 1940’s Detective Comics. Here are a few words from Ben about the project:
About 3 months ago I started the process of backing up all my old design and illustration work on the cloud. As I dug through those files, I realized I was really proud of what I accomplished in the early 2000s.
It then hit me that it had been at least 4 years since I sat down to do any serious illustration work. I also really missed participating in the creative community I had become a part of at that time.
In 2014 when I left the pop art scene to pursue other opportunities, I shutdown the majority of my art profiles and portfolio pages. When I realized I had all this great work just sitting on the cloud, I relaunched by Behance profile and started sharing my passion projects again.
My latest fan work, “BATMAN NOIR,” is a series dedicated to the best of Batman over the last 75 years. My inspiration draws from across the entire span of Batman’s history in comics, television, and film. It then combines and re-imagines Batman, his family, and his gallery of rogues in a gritty noir style. My hope is to continue expand on the series as new inspiration hits.
